This conference provides an overview of planning decisions in healthcare systems in Colombia, Latin America. First it presents the context of the healthcare system in the country and the evolution of the community working in the field. Second, it provides details of a set of applications aimed at supporting decisions in different types of healthcare services. Finally, it identifies research perspective and collaborative opportunities with the Colombian and the Latin Ibero-American community.
Elena Valentina Gutiérrez is a Full Professor at the School of Industrial Engineering, Universidad del Valle. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, and a master’s degree in engineering from the School of Engineering at Universidad del Valle. Elena Valentina is the current president of the Latin Ibero-American Association of Operations Research (ALIO, 2025-2026), and past president of the Colombian Association of Operations Research (ASOCIO, 2023-2025). She was founder of the ALIO and the ASOCIO Working Group in Healthcare. Her main interests include the applications of operations research, logistics and supply chain management, healthcare systems, and sustainability.
