Semester Ticket (Deutschlandticket for Students)

Starting in the summer semester 2024, we have introduced a Deutschlandticket for students with extra subsidies throughout Germany.
It will replace the previous OWL/NRW ticket and will cost €176.40 per semester.

HSBI’s AStA, too, has decided to use this ticket.
It is thus not an optional service for students, but a mandatory part of the semester contribution!

(According to OWL Verkehr, problems still occur with the payment method “direct debit”. If in doubt, please use an alternative.)

Exemption from the semester ticket

If you have a disability ID card with the appropriate code (e.g., “G,” “aG,” “H,” “BI”) that makes you eligible for free use of public transport, you may be exempted from the mobility contribution (for the semester ticket). Please request the exemption from the Registrar’s and Examination Office at this link. A refund of contributions already paid may be possible if you contact AStA directly.

Semester ticket in leave of absence 

If you are on a leave of absence, you can still purchase the semester ticket for a fee. Depending on your study location, FlowBie and/or Studierendenwerk’s services will be included.

• To do so, please take the following steps:
• On the online leave request, please add the comments below to the relevant field:
• “Ticket” – if you would like to book the semester ticket
• “Sozialbeitrag” – if you would like to make use of Studierendenwerk’s services (canteen, daycare centre, accommodation)
• “Ticket und Sozialbeitrag” – if you would like to book both

• When the Registrar’s and Examination Office process your online request, they will record this in your data.
• After your request has been processed, the ticket price will be displayed in the CAT online portal.
• Please transfer the required amount according to the usual steps that are part of re-registration.
• As soon as we have booked the amount, you can order your semester ticket in the OWL Verkehr portal.
