Prepatory German Courses
HSBI offers preparatory German courses at levels B2 and C1, which are funded as part of the DAAD GlobalFIT project and the programme “NRWege ins Studium.”
The courses are conceived for prospective international and displaced students who would like to take up studies at HSBI after their German course and to prepare for employment in Germany.

Requirements
- University entrance qualification for studies in Germany
- German language skills at least at German B1 level
Application documents (German or English)
- VPD certificate from uni-assist*
- School-leaving certificate and overview of grades (in the original language and certified translations produced by a sworn translator)
- If available: university degree certificate and transcript of records (in the original language and certified translations produced by a sworn translator)
- CV in table format
- German language certificate
- Residence permit
- Passport copy
- Copy of a proof of name change (if applicable)

Cost
The cost of the classes is financed through the DAAD GlobalFIT project or the “NRWege ins Studium” programme.
The cost of the examinations have to be borne by the participants.
Participants whose applications are accepted have to register at HSBI and pay the regular semester contribution.

Course contents and objectives
Objectives
- Preparing you for the telc C1 language exam for university studies
- Starting your studies after you have passed the telc C1 exam
- Preparing you for studies in Germany in general and for intercultural differences
Contents
- Acquisition of German skills (in preparation for studies in Germany, levels B2 and C1)
Course details
- The courses start in early March, mid-May, early September and mid-November and last 8–9 weeks each.
- Classes take place in a blended format (online and on campus) with 30 teaching units per week.
- Classes take place daily from Monday to Friday. Assignments, self-study units and digital tests have to be completed in addition.
- Textbooks can be borrowed from the library free of charge.
- For the online classes, you need a laptop or computer, a camera and a microphone – you cannot participate via smartphone.
- On-campus classes take place in Bielefeld.
- Each course level can be repeated once.
Rules for participating in the German courses
- Participants have to be present in at least 80% of the classes, participate actively, complete their assignments regularly and take part in digital tests in order to receive a certificate of participation.
- For online courses, the camera must be switched on.
