Using individual student data from 2014\r\n(TEL4-G), the findings indicate both immigrant-specific patterns of university enrolment and significant\r\ndifferences within the group of second-generation immigrants. In the second part of the paper, we\r\nfurther gain insights from a representative survey of first-year students in Business and Economics\r\n(conducted in 2016-17). In particular, we study the role of non-traditional pathways to university\r\nand their relative importance for students with a migration background. These findings are relevant\r\nfor strategies that aim at widening the overall participation in higher education and for policies that\r\nencourage academia to become a diverse community itself.","lang":"eng"}],"keyword":["European Higher Education Area","flexible learning pathways into higher education","learning for employability","minorities","vocational education and training"],"quality_controlled":"1","oa":"1","editor":[{"last_name":"Noorda","full_name":"Noorda, Sijbolt","first_name":"Sijbolt"},{"first_name":"Peter","last_name":"Scott","full_name":"Scott, Peter"},{"full_name":"Vukasovic, Martina","last_name":"Vukasovic","first_name":"Martina"}],"publisher":"Bononia University Press","author":[{"first_name":"Vivian","id":"76794","full_name":"Carstensen, Vivian","last_name":"Carstensen"},{"first_name":"Roland","full_name":"Happ, Roland","last_name":"Happ"},{"last_name":"Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia","full_name":"Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia, Olga","first_name":"Olga"}]}
