For\r\nmany years an absolute insider tip, handpans (also known\r\nas Hang or Spacedrum) have gained more and more popularity\r\nand evolved from an esoteric niche instrument to an\r\nidol of the public. Considering the assumption that instruments\r\nwith very simple interfaces, like for instance drums,\r\noffer a particularly suitable introduction to making music,\r\nit follows that handpans could also be used in early musical\r\neducation, as they provide the possibility to produce\r\nnot only transient sounds, like most other easy-to-use percussive\r\ninstruments, but tones and melodies, similar to the\r\nxylophone. However, the interface itself is rather abstract\r\nand not very informative about the kind of sounds it produces.\r\nIt is also a very expensive instrument. For this reason,\r\nin this paper we present ongoing developments in the\r\ndesign of an augmented digital handpan called ’Rainbow\r\nBlob’. The system uses Leap Motion to capture strokes on\r\na plexiglass dome to produce the typical ethereal sounds\r\nfor which this instrument is famous. At the same time, additional\r\nvisual information will be given as feedback and\r\nused for advice and learning instructions."}],"type":"conference","corporate_editor":["International Computer Music Association"],"year":"2018","status":"public","_id":"2739","user_id":"249224","citation":{"ieee":"D.
